CDS VizPost post process does not remain open on the server

This support note applies to:

  • AE Practice Manager (NZ)
  • AE Practice Manager (AU)
  • AE Tax (AU)

In MYOB Accountants Enterprise (AE), the CDSVizPost post process is required to be running. When launching the Run CDSVizPost background process on the file server the post process window may open and quickly close.

If you experience this issue you'll need to perform the following checks on the Server where MYOB AE has been installed.

Is System Release (SR) DAL running?

To check the status of SR DAL
  1. From the desktop of your server, click the Windows Start (

    ) button and type "Control Panel" in the Search field, then press the ENTER key on the keyboard.
  2. From Control Panel, double-click System Release DAL. The System Release DAL window appears.

The SR DAL Status field should show as Running. If the SR DAL is not running and shows as Stopped, the CDSVizPost post process cannot run. Once you have determined if SR DAL is running, refer to the set of instructions that relates to your situation from below.

If System Release (SR) DAL is not running...

You will first need to restart SR DAL, and then re-start the CDSVizPost post process once SR DAL is running.

1. Restart SR DAL

Ensure that all users have fully exited all MYOB products.

  1. Follow the menu path: Start > Settings > Control Panel. The Control Panel window opens.

    You may have to select Start > Settings > Control Panel dependent on your Display settings.
  2. Double-click on System Release DAL. The System Release DAL window appears.

    The SR DAL Status field will show as Stopped.
  3. Click the Start button. The SR DAL Status field changes to Running.
  4. Click OK to close the System Release DAL window.
2. Restart CDS VizPost

You can only start the background process successfully when logged in directly to the server console.  When starting it from within a remote terminal session, you will get the error 'Machine Name Not Unique' and the background process will not start up successfully.

  1. From the desktop of your server, click the Windows Start (

    ) button and type "Run CDS Vizpost" in the Search field.

  2. Click Run CDS Vizpost. The <DatabaseName> post process window appears and is running.

    For versions prior to Windows 7 or Server 2012, you may find Run CDS Vizpost by following the menu path from the desktop of your server:

    • Start > All Programs > Solution 6 > Run CDS VizPost

    • Start > All Programs > MYOB Accountants Enterprise > Run CDS VizPost

    • Start > All Programs > Startup > Run CDS VizPost

    Alternatively, you may also be a desktop icon on the server console titled Background Auto Run.

If System Release (SR) DAL is running...

If SR DAL is running, have all users close out of MYOB Tax and Practice Manager, then follow the steps below::

1. Stop SR DAL

Ensure all users exit out of MYOB Tax and Practice Manager prior to performing these instructions.

  1. From the desktop of your server, click the Windows Start (

    ) button and type "Control Panel" in the Search field, then press the ENTER key on the keyboard.
  2. From Control Panel, double-click System Release DAL. The System Release DAL window appears and the status shows as Running.
  3. Click the Stop button. The SR DAL status field now displays as Stopped.

    If you receive the following message or prompt 'Workstations are still attached to the server. Stopping the server now may cause running applications to fail or corrupt application data. Press Yes if you want to stop the server anyway.' this indicates that users are in Tax. Ensure all users have closed out of the software and then click Yes.

  4. Click OK to close the SR DAL window.
2. Rename SRDALQueues.bin
  1. From the desktop of your server, click the Windows Start (

    ) button and type "Run" in the Search field, then press the ENTER key on the keyboard.

  2. In the Run window, type C:\Windows into the Open field. Then click OK. The Windows folder appears.
  3. Right-click on the file SRDALQueues.bin and select Rename.

    This file will not exist if the SR DAL is running.


  4. Rename the file to SRDALQueuesold.bin then press ENTER to rename the file.
3. Restart SR DAL

    You may have to select Start > Settings > Control Panel dependent on your Display settings.
  2. Double-click on System Release DAL. The System Release DAL window appears.

  3. Click the Start button. The SR DAL Status field changes to Running.
  4. Click OK to close the System Release DAL window.

4. Restart CDS VizPost

MYOB INTERNAL STAFF ONLY

Check the system services user profiles to make sure each user's profiles are saved locally, not across the network. Specifically, the Vizpost user needs local path and the network path blank.

Change the UNC path to the absolute path for "Run CDS Vizpost". This is changing it to the mapped drive.

Check the audit trail in CDS and see what sort of errors are logged.

This issue is caused by an invalid entry in the srdalqueues.bin file. The entry cannot be read, which causes RunCDSVizPost to close. This is why the log file has to be renamed to get RunCDSVizPost to start again.
