Changing a normal account to a control account

This support note applies to:

In MYOB Accountants Enterprise MAS (AE MAS) you can use different levels of account codes to store transactions.  This is done by allocating the level to the account code as follows:

  • N - Normal Account.
  • C - Control Account.
  • S - Sub Account.

You can code transactions to an account that has a Normal level or you can group sub accounts together under a single control account. You cannot post to an account that has a Control level. You can change the level of an account even once it has transactions. If you want to change from a normal account to a control account, you need to modify the details of the account and set the level to Control.

To change from a normal account to a control account
  1. From within a MAS ledger follow the menu path: Setup > Client Files > Client Chart. The Client Chart screen appears.
  2. Select the relevant account and click the Details button. The account details displays.
  3. Click Edit press Enter until the cursor is focused on the Level field, type C and click OK. The screen returns to the client chart and the normal account has now been changed to a Control Account to enable Sub accounts to be added.
In this situation where the account already exists on the chart as a Normal level, the sub account xxx 00 is automatically created and if there are transactions already posted, these transactions are transferred to this new sub account. You may wish to edit the sub account code and amend the Division number on the new sub account as required.
