CMN.ATO.GEN.200001

You may get the rejection error CMN.ATO.GEN.200001 from the ATO when trying to

  • report using Single Touch Payroll (STP) in AccountRight or Essentials

  • lodge tax returns using PLS in Accountants Enterprise or Accountants Office

Accountants Enterprise (AE) and MYOB Accountants Office (AO)

In MYOB Accountants Enterprise (AE) and MYOB Accountants Office (AO) Tax you may experience returns rejected when lodging via PLS with the error "CMN.ATO.GEN.200001 An unexpected error has occurred. Please contact the ATO" in the PLS Validation Report.

This error usually indicates a discrepency between practice ABN and/or practice name and the Tax Agent Number (TAN) and/or Tax Agent name.

  1. Check if the practice ABN is registered and active on abr.business.gov.au.

  2. Check the TAN is present and valid on tbp.gov.au.

  3. If the TAN is registered, check the name used for the TAN matches the name listed against the practice ABN on abr.business.gov.au.

  4. If the all of the above is correct, check that the ABN entered in the return is also correct.

If this is still an issue contact the ATO on  13 28 65. For the fast key code, see here.
