When previewing bills in Microsoft Word using the Add Letter or Create Document function, you might get the error "a file error has occurred".

This error occurs when Document Protection is enabled in Microsoft Word.

To fix the error, disable Word's Protected View setting and restart your computer.

For Terminal Server sites, close Word for all users and log in as the administrator before changing Protected View. Then, test from individual logins after logging off/into a terminal server session. If this doesn't fix the error, repeat the same steps in Word under an individual terminal server login and re-test previewing bills.

To turn off the Protected View setting in MS Word
  1. Open Microsoft Word and go to File > Options > Trust Centre > Trust Centre Settings > Protected View

  2. Deselect the options required to disable protected view.

  3. Click OK and restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
