Error 'A problem has occurred. Cannot insert duplicate key row in object 'dbo.Assignment' with unique index 'IX_Assignment_Code'. The statement has been terminated' may appear when editing a Client name or Mailing Name or when changing a client code or closing a client within AE Practice Manager (AE PM)
To resolve, ensure the Assignment Codes for the affected clients are all unique. Should you find there is a duplicate, one of the codes will need to be edited to be a unique code.
Note: The Code for the assignment may display unique codes on the Assignments tab but may actually be different under the Amend assignment screen.
To check if codes are unique
In AE PM, open the client and click the Assignments tab. All assignments for the client appear.
Click the Show Closed Assignments checkbox if not already ticked so see all of the assignments.
- Click into the Name field for the assignment code reported in the error. The Assignment Details screen appears.
- Click Amend assignment from the Assignment status under the Task Bar. The Amend assignment screen appears.
- Take a note of the code in the Code field. Note: If you find there are two assignments with the same assignment code, you need to edit one of the codes to be unique, click OK to save.
You should now be able to edit the Client Name or the Mailing Name.
