Error: "Ceedata error: can't open S:\Data\MYOB\cds.dir"

This support note applies to:

  • AE Tax Series 6 & 8 (AU)
  • AE Accounts (AU)

When opening Contacts or Client Compliance in MYOB Accountants Enterprise (AE) you may experience the error "Ceedata error: can't open S:\Data\MYOB\cds.dir".

This issue commonly occurs after a server migration. The error may display the old server or data path.

To correct this issue, check that the server where MYOB has been installed to works correctly then copy the Ceedata.ini from the server to each workstation by following the instructions below.

To copy the ceedata.ini file
  1. Open the C:\Windows folder on the server and right-click the Ceedata.ini file and select Copy.
  2. Paste this Ceedata.ini into the root of a network drive accessible on workstations.
  3. On the workstations experiencing this error, copy the Ceedata.ini from the network location above to the following folders:

    • C:\Windows\

    • C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\ where <UserName> is the Windows username of the affected user.
