Error: "Document creation failed: the network path was not found"

In MYOB Accountants Enterprise (AE) or Accountants Office (AO), you may receive one of the following error/s when previewing an invoice or bill:

  • Document creation failed: the network path was not found
  • Document creation failed: the network name cannot be found

This error commonly occurs after performing a server migration where the Document Style settings, Mailing Settings and Document Creation Settings have not been updated to refer to the new location of your documents and templates.

To resolve this error, check the file and folder paths for each of the following:

To update the Document Style settings
  1. From within AE/AO, follow the menu path Maintenance > Maintenance Map > Documents > Document Styles
  2. Check the file paths in the Word Template column are correct and that these templates exist in that location.
    • To change the Word Template path:
      1. Click in the Word Template column for the Document Style you wish to change the path for, then click the ellipses (
        ) button. The Open window appears.
      2. Browse to the new location of your document style templates and select the file you wish to use for this document style. The location of the template appears in the Word Template column.
      3. Press the ENTER key to save and move to the next line. Repeat steps a. and b. for each Word Template path you need to update.
  3. Click OK to apply any changes, and close the Maintenance - Document Styles tab.
To update the Mailing settings
  1. From within AE/AO, follow the menu path Maintenance > Maintenance Map > Documents > Mailing Settings
  2. Check the folder location for the Billing Startup, Templates Path and Document Startup Path are correct.
    • To change the Billing Startup, Templates or Document Startup Paths:
      1. Click the ellipses (
        ) button next to the relative field. The Open window appears.
      2. Browse to the relevant location, select the folder you wish to use as the startup or template path, then click Open. The location of the template appears in the relative field.

  3. Click OK to save the changes and close the Mailing Settings tab.
To update the Document Creation settings
  1. From within AE/AO, follow the menu path Maintenance > Maintenance Map > Documents > Document Creation Settings
  2. If you have any Document Creation algorithms that contain a file path, ensure this path exists and is accessible.
    • To change the Document Creation path:
      1. Click the ellipses (
        ) button next to the relative field. The Document Algorithm window appears.
      2. Type in the file or folder path you wish to use as the document creation path, then click OK. The Document Algorithm appears in the relative field.
      3. Press the ENTER key to save and move to the next line. Repeat steps a. and b. for each Document Creation path you need to update.
  3. Click OK to save the changes and close the Document Creation tab.
