MYOB recently advised all clients that up coming software updates would require that you are running Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6, to install this prior to installing MYOB software updates and the recommended way that this could be updated. 

When trying to run the Windows update you may experience the error ".NET Framework 4.6 failed to install" which then references a log file. While MYOB does not provide support for Window updates and it's components, we will provide some guidance to assist you with this update.

Please refer to this article for further suggestions on how to troubleshoot this issue.

As Microsoft updates are done on all workstations, it's important to check the log file on every workstation that experiences this issue. This is because the required fix to resolve this issue may vary from workstation to workstation.

IMPORTANT! Don't remote in to fix this issue. We don't support fixing Microsoft issues but we are providing guidance as it does impact the ability to use MYOB software.

To view the Microsoft log file

When receiving this error message a log file is created. It is this log file that has the answer on how to resolve this issue. You can view this log file at the time when the error appears, however if you have closed this window without opening the file perform the following instructions to locate and view the log file.

  1. Press and hold the Windows button and press R on your keyboard. The Run window opens.
  2. In the Open field type %TEMP% and press ENTER. Windows Explorer opens to the Temp folder.
  3. Search for a .HTML file that references Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6 in the title, then double click on the file to open it.
  4. Scroll to the very bottom of the log file and note the fix required to resolve this issue.

Leave the log file open and proceed to the next procedure.

To locate and perform the Microsoft fix

While the log file remains open, use the following instructions to guide you with locating and running the required fix.

  1. Click on the hyperlink in the log file. Your web browser opens and takes you to the Microsoft website.
  2. Using the instructions noted from the log file, open the specified Microsoft KB from the list that appears on their website.
  3. Follow the Microsoft instructions to update the workstation.
  4. Once the microsoft instructions have been completed, re-install Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6

After running the required fix, if you are still have difficulty installing Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6, please consult with your IT Professional or alternatively, contact your Client Manager to arrange for an MYOB Consultant.
