Error: 'Unhandled exception has occurred in a component in your application' when using Save with Contact

This support note applies to:

  • AE Practice Manager (AU)

The error message 'Microsoft .NET Framework. Unhandled exception has occurred in a component in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue' may appear when attempting to save a document to a contact.

To correct this issue you need to update Microsoft.NET CASPOL on the workstation where the error occurs to include access to the Deploy folder on the server.  

Updating Microsoft.NET CASPOL settings

For version 4.3 and above

  1. Click the Windows Start button and select Run. The Run screen appears.
  2. In the Open field type CMD and press ENTER. A DOS screen appears.
  3. Type CD\ at the DOS prompt. The DOS prompt changes to the C:

    If the DOS prompt shows a drive letter other than C: type C: at the DOS prompt and press ENTER.


  4. Type cd \Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\ and press ENTER. The DOS prompt shows as C:\windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322>
  5. Type caspol -machine -addgroup 1. -url FILE://<server>/central/* FullTrust -description VPM -Name VPM and press ENTER, where: <server> is the name of the Server where AE Practice Manager (AE PM) is installed. The message "The operation you are performing will alter security policy. Are you sure you want to perform this operation? (yes/no)" appears.

    All of the above text must be keyed in as shown ie the command is case sensitive.
  6. Type yes and press ENTER. The message "Added union code group with "-url" membership condition to the Machine level. Success" appears confirming the CASPOL settings have been updated.
  7. Type cd.. and press ENTER. The DOS prompt shows as C:\windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework>
  8. Type cd v2.0.50727 and press ENTER. If the DOS prompt shows as C:\windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\2.0.50727> (this directory will exist if .NET version 2 has been installed). If the prompt 'The system cannot find the path specified' appears, go to step 10.
  9. Repeat steps 5 and 6.
  10. Double-click on the AE Practice Manager icon. The AE PM Login page appears.

 

The workstation may require a reboot. 

MYOB INTERNAL NOTES:

For version 4.0, 4.1 and 4.1.1

1.      Click the Windows Start button and select Run.
The Run screen appears.

2.      In the Open field type CMD and press ENTER.
A DOS screen appears.

3.      Type CD\ at the DOS prompt.
The DOS prompt changes to the C:

Note: If the DOS prompt shows a drive letter other than C: type C: at the DOS prompt and press ENTER.

4.      Type cd \Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\ and press ENTER.
The DOS prompt shows as C:\windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322>

5.      Type caspol -machine -addgroup 1. -url FILE://<server>/vpm400/deploy/* FullTrust -description VPM -Name VPM and press ENTER, where:
<server> is the name of the Server where AE Practice Manager (AE PM) is installed.
The message "The operation you are performing will alter security policy. Are you sure you want to perform this operation? (yes/no)" appears.

Note: All of the above text must be keyed in as shown ie the command is case sensitive.

6.      Type yes and press ENTER.

The DOS prompt shows as C:\windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework>

8.      Type cd v2.0.50727 and press ENTER.
If the DOS prompt shows as C:\windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\2.0.50727>, go to step 9. This directory will exist if .NET version 2 has been installed.
If the prompt 'The system cannot find the path specified' appears, go to step 10.

9.      Repeat steps 5 and 6.

10.  Double-click on the AE Practice Manager icon.
The AE PM Login page appears.

Note: The workstation may require a reboot.
