Microsoft have announced that the current Internet Explorer (IE11) desktop application will be retired and go out of support on June 15, 2022.

If you use MYOB Intranet, Document Manager and PDF Manager, you should NOT remove IE from your system at this point. To launch or operate, these products require IE when they are running on the operating systems listed in the Prerequisites section of the Microsoft article Disable Internet Explorer 11.

Therefore, if you remove or uninstall IE from your system, this will have an impact on these MYOB products.

However, the products will run as expected in Microsoft Edge if you disable IE.

To disable IE11

  1. Ensure your workstation or server meets the requirements in the Prerequisites section of the Microsoft article Disable Internet Explorer 11, including the KB articles listed in the prerequisites. You'll need to follow these articles regarding operation system versions to allow the disabling and redirection of IE11 traffic.
  2. Follow the rest of the article to disable IE11 and redirect traffic to Microsoft Edge.
Intranet and PDF Manager will then launch applications in Microsoft Edge rather than Internet Explorer. Otherwise, the product operation on the desktop will be the same.

For sites that have uninstalled IE11:

From Settings screen:

Follow  Disable and enable Internet Explorer on Windows  Method 1 - Using Optional features in Control Panel (client systems only).

This method will remove the Internet Explorer feature from ‘Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows features on or off’.

From Control Panel:

If uninstalled from ‘Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows features on or off’ by deselecting the feature, it must be reinstalled by re-selecting the feature and restarting the machine.

NOTE: The feature will still appear in ‘Settings > Apps > Optional Features’ as an installed feature. But it won't launch Intranet documents or PDF Manager documents.

Intranet requires a browser to launch.

When using IE:

If IE is not open, PDF documents will open in IE and the IE session will close as the document is closed.

If IE is open and already has tabs open, only the tab that has the PDF document in it will close as the document is closed.

Other document (e.g. Word and Excel) will open IE and ask if you want to Open, Save or Save As.  If Open is selected, then IE will launch the native application. Once it is open, the IE session will close.

When using a redirection to Microsoft Edge:

If Edge is not open, PDF documents will open in Edge and the Edge session will close as the document is closed.

If Edge is open and already has tabs open, only the tab that has the document in it will close as the document is closed.

If Edge is not already running with open tabs, other document (e.g. Word and Excel) will open Edge with an untitled tab and ask if you want to Open. If Open is selected, then Edge will launch the native application. Once it is open and even after it is closed, Edge will remain open with an untitled tab.

If Edge is already running with tabs open, no extra tab will be opened and Edge will launch the native application.
