As listed on the MYOB System Requirements page, MYOB Accountants Office Classic (AO Classic) is supported on SQL Server 2014 Express 32-bit. Any newer versions of SQL Server, including SQL Server 2016 and beyond, are not supported when using MYOB AO Classic.

If you're using AO Classic integrated to MYOB AE (for example a 'Hybrid' site): SQL Server 2016 and later cannot be used. This is because the components used to integrate the AO Classic database to MYOB AE require a 32-bit edition of SQL.

With the release of SQL Server 2016, Microsoft are only releasing 64-bit editions of SQL Server. This means that SQL Server 2016 and versions beyond will only be available in 64-bit editions. As a result, versions of SQL Server 2016 or later cannot be used with AO Classic.

If you're using AO Classic integrated to MYOB AE, if you are looking to update your SQL Server version, you can use a 32 bit version of SQL Server 2012 or SQL Server 2014
