Reporter not opening where no error message displays

This support note applies to:

  • AE Reporter (NZ)
Article ID: 30916

In MYOB Accountants Enterprise Reporter (AE Reporter), in a network environment there may be some workstations where AE Reporter does not open, the AE Reporter processes are not initiated and no error displays providing any further information.

If other computers on the same network can open AE Reporter then the problem could be due to Microsoft Scripting Runtime, scrrun.dll, being incorrectly installed.  This can also be caused by installing MYOB Accountants Enterprise Practice Manager (AE PM).

To resolve this issue:

1. Perform a workstation setup on the affected workstation

To run a workstation setup on the affected workstation refer to Running a workstation setup for AE Reporter (NZ)

2. Check Reporter is not running in the background

Check the Processes tab of Windows Task Manager to ensure the Reporter process is not running in the background.

  1. Press CTL+ALT+DELETE on the keyboard and choose Start Task Manager. The Windows Task Manager window appears.
  2. Click the Processes tab.
  3. Review the list of processes for S6RpLauncher.exe, S6RPLA~1.exe or S6RpDesigner.exe. If either of these process appear in the list, right-click the process and choose End Task.
  4. Close Windows Task Manager and attempt to open Reporter again.

If neither of the items in step 3 show on the Task Manager processes list, perform tasks 3 and 4 as follows.

3. Copy and paste the scrrun.dll file from a working workstation to the workstation with the issue

On a computer on the network where AE Reporter is working:

  1. Right-click on the Windows Start Button and select Explore.
  2. Navigate to the relevant location as follows:

    Operating SystemCommand

  4. Open the System32 (32-bit) or SysWOW64 (64-bit) folder on the workstation having the issue.
  5. Right-click on the scrrun.dll file and select Paste.
4. Register the scrunn.dll file
  1. Press and hold the Windows key + R on your keyboard. The Run window opens.
