Resolving errors in Accountants Office (AO) Classic in Windows 7

This support note applies to:

  • AO Classic Tax (AU)

You may experience errors in MYOB Accountants Office (AO) when using a Windows 7 workstation.

The errors could be caused by Access rights, Read Only properties and Antivirus programmes.

Potential Errors

  • Microsoft Visual Foxpro has encountered a problem and needs to close.
  • 1705/file access is denied.
  • 1104/error reading file.
  • 111/cannot update cursor.
  • Fatal error: Exception Code C0000005.

Contact your IT provider to perform the following checks/changes to your settings.

To check Read Only properties
  1. Open Windows Explorer or Computer and navigate to the MYOBAO folder, for example X:\MYOBAO and also to the Accountants Office folder, for example C:\Program Files or Program Files (x86)\Accountants Office folders. The files and folders contained display.
  2. Right-click on each of these folders in turn and select Properties. The Properties window opens.
  3. Deselect the Read Only option and apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files. The folders now allow read/write access.
Permissions / Access rights
  1. Open Windows Explorer or Computer and navigate to the MYOBAO folder, for example X:\MYOBAO and also to the Accountants Office folder, for example C:\Program Files or Program Files (x86)\Accountants Office folders. The files and folders contained display.
  2. Right-click on each of these folders and select Properties. The Properties window opens.
  3. Click the Security tab. The Security details appear.
  4. Select the relevant User or Group, then click Edit. The Permissions window opens.
  5. Select the Allow option for Full Control and click Apply. Full access is provided to this user or group.

Antivirus

Ensure the Antivirus is not scanning over the MYOBAO folder and its contents in real time.
