Seniors Pension age

To be eligible for the age pension you must be 65 years or older. The qualifying age will gradually increase by 6 months every 2 years, to 67 years by 1 July 2023.

For those receiving the pension from Veteran Affairs, the qualifying age is 60 years for both men and women.

To be eligible for an Australian Government age pension from Centrelink, on 30 June of the current income year a Senior Australian pensioner or Self-funded retiree must be 65 years and 6 months or older.

Age pension age, from:

1 July 2017:

  •  1 July 1952 to 31 December 1953 - 65 years and 6 months

1 July 2019:

  • 1 January 1954 to 30 June 1955 - 66 years

1 July 2021

  • 1 July 1955 to 31 December 1956 66 years and 6 months

Those born from 1 January 1957 onwards - 67 years until 1 July 2023.
