Error: "Cannot establish exclusive access" in MAS

This support note applies to:

  • AE MAS (NZ)
  • AE MAS (AU)
Article ID: 27122

In MYOB Accountants Enterprise MAS (AE MAS) some processes require exclusive access on the AE MAS ledger for data integrity purposes.  During these processes you may experience the error "Cannot establish exclusive access".

This is due to the inability of System Release to ensure single user access during the process.  This could be due to an open session of the AE MAS ledger or a user having been locked in the AE MAS ledger.

To check no-one is in the MAS ledger
  1. In System Release, right-click the AE MAS ledger and click Properties. The Shortcut Properties window appears appears.
  2. Click Properties. The Item Properties window appears.
  3. Click the Users tab. The Current User Sessions screen appears. There should be no active user sessions listed.

If the Current User Sessions screen shows that there is one or more sessions open, ask staff to escape out of the ledger before proceeding.
  4. Press Esc to return to the ledger listing.
To clear users locked in a MAS ledger
Users may appear to have an active session in a ledger when in fact they do not, this could be the case if problems occur within a ledger and the MYOB product is not closed properly.
