Error: "Unable to retrieve Software ID"

This support note applies to:

  • AO Tax (AU)
  • AE Tax Series 6 & 8 (AU)
  • AE Tax (AU)

In MYOB Tax when attempting to open Tax Lodgment Manager you may experience the error "Unable to retrieve Software ID" when retrieving your Software ID.

This issue can be caused by a couple of scenarios

Tax Lodgment Manager was working fine but after 2017.0 it is no longer workingError: "Unauthorised access" in the MYOB Event Log when lodging via PLS

This is the first time Tax Lodgment Manager has been used. 

  • The ABN inside Tax is not a valid ABN. You will need to ensure you log in to MYOB Accountants Enterprise (AE) or Accountants Office (AO) using your my.MYOB login details.


Maintenance > Maintenance Map > Tax > Administration > Utilities >Control Record that your ABN is correct.

 MYOB software is unable to contact the MYOB PLS server  Configuring your Firewall or Proxy for MYOB AE/AO
 The install of MYOB recently to enable lodgment manager was not successful. Run a repair or contact us.
