Microsoft Office 365 Compatibility statement

Microsoft has released a subscription offering of Microsoft products & services and packaged this as Microsoft Office 365.  This product contains a number of components including:

  • Microsoft Office Professional 
  • Microsoft Exchange Server
  • Microsoft Sharepoint Server; and
  • Microsoft Skype for Business Server

The majority of the applications/services being offered in Office 365 is delivered and accessed online over the Internet.   

Compatability with MYOB products

Microsoft Office

As part of Office 365, Microsoft provides two methods of using Microsoft Office - the desktop method of installing it locally to a computer and a new alternative method of accessing it online as a hosted service over the Internet. The compatibility of the Microsoft Office component of Office 365 with MYOB products is determined by the way you are accessing the Office suite.

As of February 2022, the only Microsoft 365 subscription that does not provide Desktop versions of Office apps is Microsoft 365 business Basic

Due to this limitation, Microsoft 365 Apps for Business is the minimum business subscription of Microsoft 365 required for MYOB.

Full edition of Microsoft Office Professional installed to a workstation

The only component of the Microsoft Office 365 suite that is compatible with MYOB applications is the full copy of Microsoft Office Professional that is provided and can be installed on a local workstation. The version of Microsoft Office being distributed by Microsoft may change in the future. We recommend that you check the compatibility of the full version of Office being supplied by Microsoft to ensure its compatibility prior to upgrading to it.

Microsoft Office components accessed over the Internet

Because of the Hosted/Cloud-based nature of the Microsoft Office suite (Eg Word, Excel, Outlook etc) provided as part of Office 365, MYOB are unable to perform compatibility testing with the MYOB products. This is because the workstation installation components of the MYOB applications are unable to modify the hosted services to interact with the MYOB software. For this reason the Microsoft Office components accessed over the Internet are not supported for use with the MYOB applications.

Remainder of the Microsoft Office 365 suite and MYOB compatibility

The MYOB software does not interact directly with Microsoft Exchange, Sharepoint or Skype for Business services. For this reason MYOB does not test the operation of the MYOB software with these components.

For MYOB Document Manager users, the MYOB software interacts directly with the Microsoft Outlook client that is installed. The version of Microsoft Outlook that is installed is the critical component that determines your compatibility with the MYOB software.
