Checking if the MYOB tax estimate is correct
In MYOB Tax, the software generates estimates based on the ATO as the benchmark.
If you find any difference between the MYOB estimate and the ATO’s Notice of Assessment or your own calculations, check the data entry and ATO resources.
If you’ve checked everything and still think the estimate is incorrect, then you need to log a support case so we can get the details we need to investigate further.
Verifying the calculations
Check your data entry in MYOB
For example, the PAYG instalments, ETP supercaps, and averaging data in Return Properties.
Related tax returns such as Spouse returns impacting on the spouse details tab.
Check ATO resources such as the Comprehensive Tax Calculator and ATO website.
Comprehensive Tax Calculator (Income tax estimator): Used for most individual tax estimate queries
Calculators and Tools: Refer to this listing to find the calculator
ATO website: Check the website for any references, possible calculations, worksheets and guides that can assist.
Contact the ATO: To confirm that the data is correctly appearing in the right area of the tax return. This option can also be used to confirm what other elements could impact the calculation (e.g. the difference between taxable income vs adjusted taxable income).
Some of the tools provided may not assist with more complex calculations (e.g., tax on taxable income where averaging applies, etc.). In these instances, please provide a manual calculation.

Collect the relevant documents
When you submit the query to MYOB, please provide us with the following documents.
Exported copy of the tax return. Learn how to export a tax return. We recommend sending an export of the return instead of a pdf copy so the investigation is not delayed.
Any legislative references that are relevant to this estimate. For example, Income Tax AssessmentAct (ITAA) or Master Tax Guide (MTG) or CCH Australia.
ATO NOA if the return is lodged.
Any manual calculations.
