When preparing a tax return or form to lodge with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) there is a process that needs to be followed.  This process is to be followed only once you have entered all data for all related tax returns and documents.

Once all data entry has been completed you will need to the following:

Validate and complete the form

Perform the following instructions from within the tax return or form.

  1. Click the Validate
Icon or press F3. The Validation Summary window opens.
  2. Clear any validation errors appearing in the window and press F3 again. A green tick with No ELS Validation errors found appears and the Complete button appears.

When the Complete button appears this means that the return can be lodged.  If any Warning Messages appear these will generally not prevent returns or forms from being lodged.  MYOB does recommend that you review the Warning Messages and ensure that they don't apply.
  3. Click Complete. The return or form is now complete, no further changes can be made to return and it has cleared all required ATO validation checks and is ready for lodgment.

It is at this point that you will print the return/form and present it to your client for signing.

Update the return or form status as Sent for Signature

This process is done only when the return or form is complete and it has been printed and sent to your client for signing.

Use the process that is applicable to you:

Tax Returns
  1. Follow the menu path: Lodgment > Update > I P T C F Forms. The Lodgment Update window opens.
  2. Select the required option and click OK. The Lodgment Update window appears.

If you select Single Return, the default code is the tax return that you are currently in.
  3. At the Status field, click the drop down arrow and select Sent for signature. The Sent for signature status now appears.
  4. Click OK. The tax return status is updated.
Other ATO Forms
  1. Follow the menu path: Lodgment > Update > Other ATO Forms. The Lodgment Update window opens.
  2. Highlight the relevant item and click Update. The Lodgment Update window opens.
  3. At the Status field, click the drop down arrow and select Sent for signature. The Sent for signature status now appears.
  4. Click OK. The ATO forms' status is updated.
How to tag and lodge a return or form

For more details regarding how to perform the lodgement process refer to Lodging forms using the practitioner lodgment service (PLS)

All returns or forms that have been tagged and output for ELS are in a ready state to be lodged to the ATO.

When performing the steps to tag and output for ELS you can lodge at this point or return to lodge these forms later.

However, you may find that you need to amend theses returns or forms once once they have been either:

  • Tagged but not yet output for lodgment or
  • Tagged and output for lodgement.

To know how to re-access returns or forms in these situations please refer to relevant article below:
