Changes in AO after upgrading from SQL 2014 to SQL 2019

This support note applies to:

  • Accountants Office

  • AO Classic

Background

Due to Microsoft ending support for SQL 2014 in July 2024, we’ve made changes in AO version 5.4.50 to allow you to upgrade from SQL 2014 to SQL 2019.

After you’ve upgraded your SQL, you’ll see some changes in AO when integrating with AO Classic.

We’ve released a tool to upgrade SQL from 2014 to 2019.
As a prerequisite to run the tool, the minimum AO version must be 5.4.50 or later.

Changes in AO and AO Classic integration after the SQL upgrade

AO Classic settings

AO Classic uses FoxPro which works only with 32-bit version of SQL. SQL versions later than 2014 are 64-bit and not compatible with Foxpro. So you’ll no longer be able to integrate AO with AO Classic under settings.

  • The AO Classic Settings in Maintenance Map (AO) will show Not integrated.

This screenshot is an example from NZ AO.
Do not try to turn the integration back on. You may not see any errors but it will break some functionality such as creating and editing clients in AO.

Editing details in AO Classic and AO

  • When you make any changes in AO Classic or AO, they will not integrate with each other. This includes any new changes and changes to existing details. You’ll need to update the details in AO and AO Classic separately.

Tax client search

  • When you click Return Preparation in AO for a new client created after the SQL server upgrade, the AO Classic window won't find the client and will default to the first client, not the client you selected.
