Error: "The user is logged on at workstation..." when opening a Tax Return

This support note applies to:

  • AE Tax (AU)
  • AE Tax Series 6 & 8 (AU)
  • AO Tax (AU)

System Release keeps track of which machine you access the software from. This means that your user code can only be logged into the software on a workstation at a single time.

When attempting to open a Tax return or System Release, if you receive the error "The user is logged on at workstation <ComputerName>", your user code is seen as being in use on the specified workstation.

This issue commonly occurs if your workstation or software crashes whilst you are using a System Release-based application such as AE/AO Tax, MAS or AE Assets. As a result, System Release may not detect you are no longer in the application. If you attempt to log in again on another workstation you may receive this error.

This error can be resolved by performing an EPRESET routine to reset the internal user count. For step-by-step instructions, refer to the relevant article for your software:

AeTaxUseRequestHandler = 0
