AE Pre-migration service tasks

Copy your data onto the new server

Before a migration service, you'll need to copy the data from your old server onto your new server.

Data to copy onto your new server

Use the table below to find out what you need to copy onto your new server for each product.

If you have...Copy...
AE frameworkFrom within MYOB AE, Backing up the MYOB AE or AO database of your AE database and copy it onto your new server.
Practice Manager

From within MYOB AE, Backing up the MYOB AE or AO database of your AE database and copy it onto your new server.

Open AE and follow the menu path: Maintenance > Documents and note the file paths in Document Style Defaults, Document Styles, Document Creation Settings and Mailing Settings.

Copy all files from the locations noted onto your new server.

AE Tax

SQL Tax with Practice Manager or AE framework:

From within MYOB AE, Backing up the MYOB AE or AO database of your AE database and copy it onto your new server.

If you use AE Practice Manager or AE framework, this database is backed up with your Practice Manager and framework database.

SQL Tax, no Practice Manager or AE framework

Take a backup of your SQLTAX/AETAX database using SQL Server Management Studio. See Backing up an SQL database using Management Studio.

Non-SQL Tax:

Copy your Finding my SOL63 folder to the new server.

Document Manager

Backup your Document Manager File Store and Intranet Data Folder and copy it across to your new server.

All documents must be checked in prior to copying data. You can Viewing a list of all checked out documents in AE via the the Documents > Administration homepage.

Intranet
MAS, AE Assets or Reporter

Copy your S6CLIENT folder onto your new server.

To locate your S6CLIENT folder, oen System Release and click Folders on the left navigation bar. Note the Location of the folder with the Reference S6CLIENT.

System Release

Copy your Finding the SOL64 or Tax directory onto your new server.

There may be other folders used as well in this case, please copy across the entire share e.g. S6SYSTEM folder.

Corporate Compliance

Take a backup of your Corporate Compliance database using the Performing a backup or restore of Corporate Compliance and copy the backup to your new server. You can find this utility on your server. Click Start > MYOB > Backup.

You'll also need to copy your Corporate Compliance ELS folder to the new server. To locate your ELS folder, open MYOB Corporate Compliance and follow the menu path Help > About Corporate Compliance > Application Details and note the Electronic Lodgement Path.

Profit Optimiser

Copy your ProfitOptimiser data to the new server.

To locate your ProfitOptimiser data, click the Windows Start button and type *.opt.

Proxy server

If you are using version 5.4.25 or later, locate and copy the following two config files:

  • Proxy.Config – located in either your network or local deploy folder
  • CloudBurst.Premise.ConsoleHost.exe.config– located in C:\Program Files (x86)\MYOB\OntheGoPremise\

If you have enabled SBR and using a proxy, copy the following file from the old server onto the new server:

  • Proxy.config – located on your server in C:\Program Files (x86)\MYOB\SBRSender\Server\Service\<DATABASENAME>\

Download the software to be installed

MYOB Software

Log into my.myob.com.au as the practice administrator and download the following files for each product.

These files can be found under My Products > Downloads.

Install software prerequisites

Microsoft .NET Framework

The following versions of Microsoft .NET Framework are pre-requisites for SQL Server.

Install the relevant versions (see below) for your Server version. You'll need to restart your server after each install.

To check which .NET Framework versions are installed refer to How to: Determine which .NET Framework versions are installed on the Microsoft website.

Server 2012 — Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5, 4.5 and 4.6

To install .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.5:

The feature needs to be enabled via Server Manager > Add Roles > select Role Based or Featured Based Installation > This Server > tick Application Server > tick .NET Framework 3.5 and .NET Framework 4.5.

To install .NET Framework 4.6:

Download Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6 from this Microsoft website. Instructions on how to install .NET Framework are also available on this page.

Server 2019/2016 - Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.7

To install .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.7:

The feature needs to be enabled via Server Manager > Add Roles > select Role Based or Featured Based Installation > This Server > tick Application Server > tick .NET Framework 3.5 and .NET Framework 4.7.

Server 2022 - Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8

To install .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8:

The feature needs to be enabled via Server Manager > Add Roles > select Role Based or Featured Based Installation > This Server > tick Application Server > tick .NET Framework 3.5 and .NET Framework 4.8.

Windows 10/11 — Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8
  1. Press Windows Logo + R keys.
  2. In the Run command box, type “appwiz.cpl” and press ENTER.
  3. In the Programs and Features window, click on the Turn Windows features on or off.
  4. Check if the .NET Framework 3.5 (includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0) and .NET Framework 4.8 Advanced Services option is available.
  5. If available, enable them and click OK.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation and restart the computer, if prompted.
SQL Server Standard/Enterprise and Management Studio

You'll need to install SQL Standard/Enterprise, all service packs and SQL Server Management Studio to a named instance called MYOBACCT.

When installing, make sure:

  • You're installing to a named instance called MYOBACCT.
  • You choose Mixed Authentication Mode.
  • Enter username: sa and the password.
  • Use the default Collation options.
  • Enable TCP/IP and Named Pipes.

After completing the install, restart the MYOBACCT service from services.msc.

You can use Installing Microsoft SQL Server 2014 or 2019 Express with Management Tools to MYOBACCT Instance as a guide.

Configure your system settings

Make sure you've installed all your windows updates.

These are server settings that are required to be configured prior to the Migration as they require reboots to take effect.

Turn of Data Execution Prevention (DEP) on your server
  1. Press Win key + R. The Run window appears.
  2. Type sysdm.cpl and press Enter.
  3. Navigate to Advanced Tab > Performance section and click Settings > Data Execution Prevention.
  4. Select Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only and click OK.
  5. Click OK when you are notified that you need to restart your computer.
Enable Linked connections on all machines
  1. Press Win key + R. The Run window appears.
  2. Type regedit and press Enter.
  3. Locate the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System registry key and right-click on it.
  4. Select New -> DWORD Value from the context menu.
  5. Type EnableLinkedConnections and then press Enter.
  6. Right-click on the EnableLinkedConnections value that was created and select Modify from the context menu.
  7. In the Value field of the dialog that appears enter the value 1 and then click OK.
  8. Exit Registry Editor and then restart the computer.
Disable User Account Controls on server
  1. Press Win key + R. The Run window appears.
  2. Type regedit and press Enter.
  3. Locate the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System registry key and right-click on it.
  4. Select New -> DWORD Value from the context menu.
  5. Type EnableLUA and then press Enter.
  6. Right-click on the EnableLUA value that was created and select Modify from the context menu.
  7. In the Value field of the dialog that appears enter the value 0 and then click OK.
  8. Exit Registry Editor and then restart the computer.
Disable Enhanced Internet Security (Server 2012)
  1. On the task bar click on Server Manager icon.
  2. Select Local Server.
  3. On the right side click where it states On for IE Enhanced Security Configuration.
  4. Switch Administrators to Off.
  5. Switch Users to Off.
