- The ATO Pre-fill report lets you import information directly from the ATO into the client Individual tax return.
- If you're downloading the pre-fill report early in the new financial year, the report may contain unfinalised data.
- Unfinalised data won't pre-fill into a tax return.
- The ATO recommend waiting until your client's payroll data is finalised before lodging their individual tax return.
Tax pre-fill partially completes a tax return with financial data provided by the ATO from:
See Pre-fill-availability on the ATO website.
Unfinalised payroll data
Pre-fill reports downloaded in July may contain unfinalised income statements (previously called "Payment summaries"). The warning “Data received is not the employer’s final payroll data for the current reporting period” appears in the Pre-fill report PDF.
An Unfinalised income statement means that your client's employer has not completed or confirmed this year's payroll data for their employee. The employer might still have payments or adjustments to process with the ATO. Most businesses have until 31 July to finalise the income statement.
Unfinalised data won't be pre-filled into a tax return.
