Environment Error: "3110: The database appears to be in use" on Windows 8 and Server 2012 machines

When using MYOB Datasafe to try and restore database files on a machine running Windows 8 or Server 2012, the restore fails with the following error:

"Environment Error 3110: The database appears to be in use. You must ensure everyone is out of the system. The restore operation will be cancelled and all databases returned to their original state.

To fix the issue
  1. Close Datasafe.

  2. From the Start menu, right click on the Datasafe icon.  

  3. Select to Run as Administrator. Datasafe opens with Administrator permissions.  

The error longer appears when running a Check Now.
