Error: "Sorry, an error occurred while processing letters" when printing a tax letter or tax invoice

This support note applies to:

  • AE Tax Series 6 & 8 (AU)
  • AE Tax (AU)
Article ID: 28201

In MYOB Accountants Enterprise (AE) Tax you may experience the error "Sorry, an error occurred while processing letters. Description: Preparing Data - [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Invalid object name viewTAX_TAX_LETTERS_20xx. - -2147217865" when printing a tax letter or the tax invoice.

This error occurs when the Create/Update views has not yet been run in the current version of MYOB Tax. To be able to print tax letters, update the templates for the current year.

If you experience the error "Description: Preparing Data - Call Failed" instead, this indicates that you are on an earlier version of MYOB Tax. Please refer to the my.MYOB Product Downloads page, Australia to download the latest release.
To update the current year templates
Perform this process before printing the first Tax Letter.
  1. Open AE Tax and open any current year tax return. The tax return opens.
  2. From the Tax Letters menu, select Create/Update Views. The Create/Update views window opens and all the template tax letters including the invoice are updated.
  3. Click OK. The tax return appears.

You can now print Tax Letters without experiencing the error.

Perform this step each time a new MYOB Tax year is installed and in any respective tax year where this error occurs.
