When launching the background post process on the file server, the background post process window that opens, may quickly open then close.  This can be because the System Release (SR) DAL is not running or needs to be restarted.
To fix this issue it's important to first determine if the SR DAL is running or not.  If the SR DAL is not running, the background post processes window cannot run.

To check if SRDAL is running
  • Click the Start button and select Control Panel. The Control Panel opens.
  • Click System Release DAL. The System Release DAL window appears. Note:  If you cannot see the System Release DAL this is may be due to the view setting you have in your Control Panel.  In your Control Panel at the View by field click on the drop down arrow and select Large icons.  You will then be able to see the System Release DAL option.

If the SR DAL is not running you will need to start SR DAL and Restart the Background Post Process.

If the SR DAL is running, perform the following:

First ensure all users have exited out of AE Practice Manager (Viztopia) and AE Tax prior to performing the steps below.
To stop SR DAL

Ensure all users are out of AE Tax and AE Practice Manager the perform the following from the file server.

  1. Follow the menu path: Start > Control Panel. The Control Panel window opens. Note: Ensure that the View by field is set to Large icons.
  2. Click on System Release DAL. The System Release DAL window appears. Note: SR DAL Status field shows as Running.
  3. Click Stop. The SR DAL Status changes to Stopped. Note:  If you received the prompt 'Workstations are still attached to the server. Stopping the server now may cause running applications to fail or corrupt application data. Press Yes if you want to stop the server anyway.' this indicates that users are in Tax.  Ensure all users are out of AE Tax and then click Yes.
  4. Click OK. The SR DAL window closes.
To start SR DAL

To restart the Background Post Process

Note: You can only start the background process successfully when logged in directly to the server console.  When trying to restart it from within a remote terminal session, you will get the error 'Machine Name Not Unique' and the background process will not start up successfully.

  1. Follow the menu path: Start > Programs > MYOB Accountants Enterprise > MYOB Administration Centre. The MYOB Administration Centre window is opened. Note: The Administration Centre has a list of the services in the right-hand pane. To transfer data to and from AE Tax, the Administration Centre and all its services need to be running.
  2. Select the stream Profiles to AE Tax for the required database. The Profiles to AE Tax stream is highlighted.
  3. Follow the menu path: Action > Profiles to AE Tax - <name of database> Tasks > Start background process - <name of database>. The Background Post Process window now opens.

If you still encounter issues with the background post process staying open, you will need to stop and restart all of the Administration Centre services then restart the background post process window.  For further instructions on this process refer to Checking, restarting and stopping Admin Centre services and background processes
